What Kind Of Skin Care Masque Should I Use?
Many people would like to add a masque to their weekly skin care routine, but are not sure which one to choose. This can be confusing especially when you have combination skin. There are several ways to address this issue. When I advise the purchase of a masque, I consider the biggest challenge to the client’s skin first.
If the skin is congested and breaking out my first advice is to use a clay based masque. Clay absorbs excess oil, and also has a cooling and calming affect on the skin. Dermalogica has two clay masques that I find to be very effective. The Skin Refining Masque which absorbs excess oil and helps to tighten the pores. The Sebum Clearing Masque which has Salicylic Acid in a clay base. This is very good for skin that is breaking out with acne or hormonal breakouts.
For skin that is couperose (broken capillaries), has Rosacea or hyper-sensitive, I recommend a cream mask. Dermalogica’s Ultra-Calming Relief Masque was designed to minimize sensitivity and redness. It also includes Oat and Ginger which helps to restore the skin and prevent future irritation. The new improved Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque is my choice for dry, parched and dehydrated skin. This masque is an oil free gel combined with Botanicals and Vitamins to restore moisture.
For an anti-ageing treatment the Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque is your best bet. This masque comes in a creamy base filled with Vitamins A, C and E and antioxidant botanicals. If the skin is a combination type one can use two masques to improve the overall look of the skin. For example, if there is an oily t-zone and drier cheeks, neck and under eye area, use the Skin Refining Masque on the t-zone and the Skin Hydrating Masque on the rest of the face.
Since we are all on a busy schedule, one needs not to lie down to let the masques work. One can be busy in the house or on the computer letting the masques set for 10 minutes and then remove. Be sure to follow up with the correct booster or cream at the end of the treatment. I recommend using a masque once or twice a week. Adding a masque to your weekly routine will greatly improve the overall look and feel of your skin.
